The Bealtaine May morning Dew - Irish Customs around Bealtaine

A droplet of dew hangs on the tip of a blade of grass. The sun is reflecting though the dewdrop.

“If you got up at six o'clock May morning and wash your face with the dew and dry it with the sun you would have good luck for that year.”

I found so many references to the Bealtine (May 1st) May morning dew on Dúchas.ie and they are all fascinating. Washing your face and/or body with it can grant you good luck, a year of good health, beauty, protection from the sun (but wear sunscreen though!). A few sources mention it gets rid of freckles which is unfortunate because freckles are gorgeous and I'd never give mine up!

A white rope is tied in a small knot

But my favourite has to be the ability to:

“to loosen any sort of a knot for the year.“

If loosening jar lids could be included in that as well that’d be a lifesaver!

A riddle

-

I washed my face with water

That never rained or run

And I dried it with the towel

That was never wove or spun.
