Bród | Pride

Bród / Pride is celebrated worldwide every June and this Bród pin is my design to celebrate it in the Irish calendar. The event has come a long way since the early protests, like the Fairview Park march 1983 ignited by the murder of Declan Flynn the previous year, a story which you can read in more depth in this year’s Dublin Pride Guide (pages 64-67). This event has been described as Ireland's stonewall and is a vital piece of Irish history.

While things have changed for the better since 1983 there are still many uphill battles. When faced with some of the statistics around LGBTQIA+ youth in Ireland it’s easy to see where change needs to happen. LGBTQIA+ youth in Ireland experience two times the levels of self harm, three times the levels of attempted suicide and four times the levels of serious anxiety and depression.

It's vital to continue to support organisations who advocate for LGBTQIA+ youth in Ireland, who offer support to young people and also champion legislative and social change on their behalf, working towards a safer, more inclusive future. That’s the future I want and that's why I’m raising money in support of BeLonGTo. Every Bród pin sold I will donate €2 and from every Bród Print (all sizes) €5.

My goal tracker on this blog post will be updated here weekly throughout June!
